FAQs
Below we offer answers to frequently asked questions, also know as FAQs, and further general information about Cannabinoids.
General Questions:
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of the many cannabinoids found in all varieties of Cannabis plants. Beyond finding cannabinoids in Cannabis, many other plants contain cannabinoids including black pepper, cacao (yes, chocolate) and flaxseed.
Cannabinoids may interact with the Endocannabinoid System found in the human body. The Endocannabinoid System is known to regulate a number of systems in the body that modulate sleep, cognition, appetite, pain, and immune responses.
Hemp naturally has a high level of CBD and extremely low levels of THC (the psychoactive compound that intoxicates people). This makes hemp an excellent source of Cannabinoids. The CBD oil used in all of CBD Houston’s products is sourced exclusively from hemp.
Yes. Below is the legal definition.
In the USA the legal definition of “industrial hemp,” per Section 7606 of the Agricultural Appropriations Act of 2014, is “INDUSTRIAL HEMP — The term ‘‘industrial hemp’’ means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

White labeling, also known as private labeling, is when finished end products are sold to distributors without any labeling or branding. The distributor then has the ability to put their own label on the products and sell them under their own brand name.
At CBD Houston, we offer white label products to select distributors who have been approved through our application process and meet the current guidelines we have in place for selling our products.
If you are interested in white label products to build your brand, please contact us for more information.
To source our ingredients Aaron Petersen, Founder and President of CBD Houston LLC, has traveled the U.S. and attended many conferences and also simply just asked around to find the most trusted sources of carrier oils, excipients and containers. We purchase in larger volumes making it easier to maintain a standardized batch run.
CBD Houston is on the constant lookout for new science to back trends in the nutritional markets but also closely follows the food and beverage as well as the entire Cannabis industry. To put it simply if it’s not the best then we will wait until that is available!
About Cannabinoids:
In 2003 the US Federal Government obtained US Patent 6630507 titled “Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants.”[1] The patent claims:
“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties… useful in the treatment… of [a] wide variety of… diseases, such as… inflammatory and autoimmune diseases… [and] to have… application as neuroprotectants… in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.”
Distillation is the process of heating a mixture to purify volatile compounds from less volatile substances. Once the volatile compounds evaporate from the less volatile substances, they are cooled and condensed to a nearly pure or refined compound. Distillation of heat-sensitive material, such as cannabinoids, can be complicated because the boiling point is high enough to cause thermal decomposition. To prevent thermal decomposition, there are multiple variations of distillation.
What is Vacuum Distillation?
Vacuum distillation is distillation under less pressure than normal. Reducing the pressure during the distillation process reduces the boiling point, allowing for quick, controlled purification.
What is Short Path Distillation?
Short path distillation is a variation of vacuum distillation, therefore it is performed under less pressure than normal. Short path distillation shortens the distance evaporated compounds travel before they are cooled and condensed. Shorter distance between evaporation and condensation allows even more control of pressure and temperature, making an even more efficient variation of distillation.
CBD Houston benefits from short path distillation because it provides the most control over the quality of our products. High vacuum systems achieve gentle separation of materials at the lowest possible temperatures. Unlike batch distillation systems, which maintain large volumes of the material at distillation temperatures, short path evaporators expose products to evaporation temperatures only for a brief period (less than one minute) and evaporation occurs as material flows constantly across the evaporator surface.
Hemp produces terpenes. Terpenes are non-cannabinoid, hydrocarbon compounds produced by many plants and some insects. Multiple plants and animals use terpenes as biosynthetic building blocks (usually terpenes are used to synthesize terpenoids). Terpenes, similar to essential oils, have strong aromas and possess therapeutic benefits. For example, limonene is a well-known terpene found in citrus peels that is recognized as a stress-reliever.
When terpenes are chemically modified (e.g., by oxidation), the resulting compounds are generally referred to as terpenoids. Terpenoids can be found in all classes of living things because they are utilized in the chemical reactions required for growth and development. Humans find terpenoids useful in traditional herbal remedies. Well-known terpenoids include menthol, citral, and curcuminoids found in turmeric and mustard seed.
